Special Episode live from the Houses of Parliament

Live Episode: Tales from the Green Benches: An Oral History of Parliament

On 4 June 2025 the History of Parliament team hosted a live episode of the Tales from the Green Benches podcast, recorded in the Palace of Westminster!

Series hosts Dr Emma Peplow and Dr Alex Lock welcomed a live audience to the Attlee Suite of Portcullis House, where they discussed the History of Parliament’s Oral History Project in more detail, along with some special guests. They were joined by project founder Dr Priscila Pivatto, as well as two of the project’s more recent interviewees: Anne Milton, former Conservative MP for Guildford, and Gisela, Baroness Stuart of Edgbaston, former Labour MP for Birmingham Edgbaston.

The panel reflected on the ways that the project has recovered details of some MPs’ careers not previously on the record, as well as hearing clips from our more recent interviews for the first time, including discussions of Brexit and its fallout.

Presented by Dr Emma Peplow and Dr Alex Lock, produced by Melissa FitzGerald at Zinc Audio. With additional writing from Dr Priscila Pivatto and script editing from Connie Jeffery. All interviews are deposited at the British Library. Find a catalogue of interviews on our website.
